The last 5 years have been a really wild ride. It is very moving when looking back and remembering how Renderpeople was initially born out of the simple idea to scan real humans for 3D printing their miniature likeness, but then ultimately grew into being the world’s largest library of scanned 3D People. As a co-founder of Renderpeople, I am very enthusiastic about its further development, especially considering the rapidly evolving industry of 3D and all of it’s corresponding opportunities like VR, AR, XR. New technologies allow us to tackle even greater challenges in the future and to work on new ideas..
After many hours of scanning, mesh refinement, scene creation and data organizing, it was finally time to launch renderpeople.com with around 250 3D People models at that time.
After we got great Feedback from the entire ArchViz community, we decided to release our second Free Model Dennis, who is still part of our collection today!
Our free model Dennis has been downloaded thousands of times. It was a blast! So, we decided to share another model with the community. Here comes Mei!
After scanning and releasing hundreds of different Posed People Models it was the next logical step to create a new product with more versatile features. This is why we created our Rigged 3D People!
THE HEART OF OUR 3D PEOPLE PROCESSING
THE RENDERPEOPLE 3D SCANNER
To make life of 3D artists easier when working with many different Renderpeople models we created the Renderpeople Resizer plug-in for 3ds Max. With this free tool users can resize and relink hundreds of high-resolution textures directly in 3ds Max.
After releasing our Rigged 3D People models we received a lot of positive feedback. But we didn’t stop there. We wanted to improve the quality of our models and push the limits to create a better and easier to use product.
After lots of requests for all different renderers and file formats we worked very hard to add the most common formats to our library so that all artists can use Renderpeople models. No matter what application they are using.
We started our Renderpeople Blog to publish stories, tutorials and news around the usage of scanned 3D People. We’re also featuring creative and talented artists to share a few insights into their amazing projects. Stay tuned for more!
I have been part of the Renderpeople journey from almost the very beginning. Working here has always been special and inspiring because the whole team was driven by a strong vision and shared values. Now the present time confronts us with new challenges and tasks, 2020 in particular, but that doesn’t prevent us from synergizing and working on great new projects, partnerships and ideas.
My personal journey as Renderpeople’s new CEO has been mainly characterized by working close with and being greatly supported by our talented artists to eventually develop new products and reach for new opportunities, all focussed on our core competency, the 3D scanning of humans. I’m excitedly looking forward to the months and years to come, as technology is advancing fast and thus possibilities are getting better and better.
“There’s no doubt about that
our further journey will be great.”
Making our 3D People models move has always been our dream. With our scanned Rigged People models and our very own motion capturing data, it is now possible to create easy-to-use Animated 3D People for the first time.
To test out the capabilities of our motion capture hardware, we decided to create a pretty cool VFX showcase which visualizes the detail accuracy of our movements. Also, along with the showcase we released the dancer model as our second Animated Free Model.
It has been a long way, but we reached our amazing milestone of 3,000 uploaded 3D People models including more than 500 Rigged and 50 Animated People. That is 2 new models uploaded every single day!
Working with huge asset libraries can be very time consuming and complicated to organize. Renderpeople STUDIO for 3ds Max simplifies many tasks so that our users can save time and focus on their creative work instead.
To finalize our line-up of free models we now have a total of 9 different free Renderpeople models. 3 Posed People, 3 Rigged People and 3 Animated People are waiting for you.
